CBSSports.com blogpoll ballot, preseason.
For those who aren't familiar, the Blogpoll is, as the name suggests, a top 25 football poll in which the voters are college football bloggers. The Blogpoll was initially organized by Brian Cook of mgoblog and Brian now operates the poll in association with CBSSports.com. This is my third season as a voter. During the season, I will post my ballot on Monday morning and a draft poll will be issued. You can agree or disagree with my votes, and I can change my votes before the poll goes "final" on Wednesday. Without further ado, here is my preseason ballot:

I don't have much to say at this time. My ranking of USC probably is lower than most, and my ranking of Oklahoma State may be higher than most. During the season, I make an effort to start from scratch with my ballot every couple of weeks. This leads to criticism of "hey, so-and-so won, why did you move them down?" The answer is that the ideal poll should be a true reflection of accomplishment not overly affected by preseason predictions. Obviously, early season polls necessarily are influenced by prognostication, but by early October the poll should stand on 2009 accomplishments.

I’d agree with you on USC — as of now they don’t have a quarterback an that’s enough of a question mark for me to wait and believe it when I see it. I’d love nothing more than to see any of the Trojans’ QBs fall flat on their face. Maybe it’s just my jaded IU inner-fan talking.
The toss up at the bottom of the poll (which ironically correlates to the top of the Big East) between WVU and Cinci (and you could probably throw in Pitt and Rutgers too) should be interesting to watch. Or at least as interesting as a four-way race to see who the best of the mediocre teams is.
Yeah, the QB change is my main reason for dropping the Trojans below conventional wisdom. It just feels like a season in which they will lose two games to less talented teams instead of their usual one. Plus, they have road games against Oregon, Cal, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. 2-2 would be pretty good in that strech.
