Puerto Rico Tip-Off, game 1: Indiana v. Mississippi (game thread)

Indiana Hoosiers at Mississippi Rebels, Nov 19, 2009 5:00 PM EST

It's an early start for a weekday: 5 p.m. EST.  We'll know much more about this team by 7 p.m.  Go Hoosiers!

HALFTIME UPDATE:  Mississippi 45, IU 36.  It was uglier, although IU had a couple of chances to make it closer right before the half.  I'm coming up with 45 possessions, which is a lot, and turnovers on 14, which is nearly a third of the time.  Just unspeakably horrible.  Add in 40percent shooting from the field and only 6-14 from the line, and Miss is up 9 without even playing very well.

Solid so far. Playing hard on defense and the boards.

I like the pace we’re at…tons of stupid passes though.

I wondered if Rivers would look as fast against a better opponent as he has so far. Uh, yes.

That nasty speed of his really makes up for his lack of size when he drives to the rim. Love to see more of that from him as well as mix it up with kickouts and passes to the big guys when defenders slide over to help.

I’m trying to convince myself that this team is at all better than last year’s.

Enough of the STUPID passes. Also, do we practice shooting free throws? Our FT numbers this year have to be awful. Teams put us on the line and try to give away free points and we can’t make them.

A little life to end the half, at least.

Well, only one turnover before the under 16:00 timeout. Down nine.
