This game is a rematch of last season's opener, won 39-20 by IU. WMU's quarterback, Ryan Cubit, is gone, replaced by a platoon of sophomore Tim Hiller and senior Thomas Perigrin. Perigrin plauyed some against IU last year, and played well ( 9-12, 1 TD, 0 INT, 51 yards). Running back Mark Bonds, who received the lion's share fo the carreies against IU lastyear, seems to have been reduced to an afterthought by newcomer Glennis Thompson. Receiver Jamarko Simmons, who torched IU for 12 catches, 144 yards, and two touchdowns last year, returns, and caught 7 balls for 99 yards against West Virginia last week. Although IU clearly outplayed WMU last year, hopefully the quality defensive performance against ISU reflects more than a bad I-AA opponent.
  • M Live notes that although WMU did play IU last season, Kellen Lewis did not play in that game.
  • Graham Couch of the above-linked MLive blog reports that WMU has not settled on a starting quarterback.
